The liver is a very important human organ because it is home to the five digestive fires of the human body as well as the blood plasma converter. Thus, from the Ayurvedic perspective, the liver is the main regulator of the whole body. However, the liver is susceptible to a large number of disorders as well. One of them is the abnormal growth of the liver, known as hepatomegaly.
Normally, an adult liver is the size of a small ball. Sometimes, however, the liver is enlarged and it is known as an enlarged liver or hepatomegaly (hep-uh-to-MEG-uh-le). Liver enlargement is not considered as a disease but it is a sign of an underlying problem, including hepatitis, congestive heart failure or cancer. Treatment of an enlarged liver depends on its cause(s).
An inflammation of the liver is the symptom of many possible disorders that calls for medical diagnosis. Often, it is associated with a similar symptom, that is a swollen spleen. There are many conditions that lead to the inflammation of the liver or enlarged liver, and these include liver disorders such as hepatitis and various other diseases that are not directly linked to the liver.
Natural healing of liver enlargement
The Indian aloe is often used for the treatment of hepatomegaly. To naturally heal the liver enlargement, the pulp of a leaf of the plant is taken and mixed together with black salt and ginger. It is recommended to take this mixture every morning for ten consecutive days.
Mix 300 grams of amla powder with 100 grams of dried ginger. Make sure you take this mixture with plain water once each in the morning and in the evening.
Take alcohol in moderation as alcohol can lead to accumulation of fat, inflammation and scarring of your liver. Continual drinking will definitely worsen the existing condition of the liver.
Chicory juice obtained from its flowers, seeds and roots is very helpful in the treatment of various liver problems. Its juice is normally prescribed to treat the enlargement of the liver.
Kantakari grass is used in the treatment of both the liver and spleen enlargement of, which is also known as hepatosplenomegaly.
Another herb used to cure various liver problems such as hepatitis, liver disorder and jaundice is Gokulalanta. Often, the root of the herb is also prescribed to treat liver related disorders. About 60 grams of the root of Gokulakanta powder is mixed with 500ml water and then, the mixture is boiled for 30 minutes. It is taken two or three times a day with doses of 30 to 60 milliliters.
Instead of having three main meals, you should have four to six small meals each day. The recommended food includes fresh fruits, leafy vegetables and unprocessed foods. Also, drink plenty of water to flush out toxins. The intake of supplements to help boost the immune system is also recommended. The supplements here should include vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium and calcium.
